HU Chess community rules

HU Chess is the online mode of Chess Coach: you play people from all over the world, and the only thing they see of you is your nickname, your country flag and your rating. There is no chat. These rules are short, and by saving a nickname you accept them.

1. What is not allowed

• Nicknames that insult, threaten or harass anyone.
• Hate or discrimination: racism, references to nazism or terrorism, slurs against any group.
• Sexual or obscene nicknames.
• Pretending to be Chess Coach, its staff or another player.
• Cheating: using an engine or another person's help during a game, or abandoning games on purpose.

Every new nickname goes through an automatic filter, so the obvious ones never get saved. The rest is what reports are for.

2. How to report or block a player

During or after a game, tap your opponent's nickname and choose Report player or Block player. A report tells us the reason (offensive nickname, cheating, offensive behaviour or other); the other player never learns who reported them.

When you block someone, you two are never seated together again and neither of you can offer the other a rematch. You can undo it in Settings › Account › Blocked players.

3. What happens after a report

We are notified as soon as a report arrives and we review every one within 24 hours.

• An offensive nickname is removed: the player has to choose a new one before playing again.
• Serious or repeated breaches mean the account is suspended from HU Chess.
• Reports that turn out to be false or abusive can also lead to a suspension.
